A rare watch sale brings the auction house to your house

7 Haziran Pazar, 2009 - 00:44

Today, Patrizzi & Co. auctioneers will be holding its first-ever watch auction on U.S. soil. Not that it really matters?the auction will be happening simultaneously on-site, by phone, and online. The online portion is the innovative concept for Patrizzi, which auctioned off an impressive collection of Rolexes earlier this year in Milan. This time around, there is no such theme, other than fine and rare watches from some of the most prestigious firms in the business?which is plenty of narrative for us. Highlights from the 2 p.m. auction include Patek Philippe’s reference 5959P, the world’s smallest and thinnest split-second chronograph (guaranteed to leave your wallet smaller and thinner, at an estimated $280,000 to $350,000), a Tudor Date-Day from the Rolex era with decompression timing, a pair of Dunhill lighters from the twenties with clocks embedded in them, and the requisite Rolex “Paul Newman” Daytona, which, as always, screams, “Gentlemen, start your checkbooks!”
